Inside the Studio

An open sketchbook page filled with hand-drawn jewelry concepts in pencil and colored pencil. Designs include an eye surrounded by yellow petals and blue beads, a cross adorned with red garnet-like stones and teardrop beads, and ornate heart and scroll motifs labeled with notes such as “ebony,” “silver blade,” “rock crystal,” and “garnet teardrop beads.” Handwritten words like “hearts, eyes, teardrops, shells, stars” and “grief, love, feminine, the sacred” appear around the sketches. Inside the studio.

Here’s a glimpse inside my sketchbook. One of these designs was recently brought to life.

I came across a Spanish phrase that stayed with me: joyería de autor. I love it because it does not translate neatly into English. It speaks to one-of-a-kind pieces, contemporary work, artful and handmade. The literal meaning is “jewelry made by the author,” and something about that feels especially romantic as I lean more deeply into storytelling and reflection.

The designs above hold both nostalgia and a desire to explore alternative materials. They feel like a return and a discovery at once.

That is all for now, hope all’s been well.

Many hugs,

Caitlin
